In conjunction with the Stroke Association we recently ran our annual “Know Your Blood Pressure” event in the Merrion Centre Leeds. Even though the weather was atrocious there was a steady flow of people responding.
The number of blood pressures taken at 134 is around three times the average for these events around the country, so who knows how many we would have taken if the weather had been better. Of the 134, “no further action” was required by 78 people, “routine follow-up with their GP” was suggested for 51, and “urgent follow-up with their GP” was recommended for 5 folks.
We were pleased to have our patron, the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Eileen Taylor, along with her consort, Mr. Audley Taylor, and her Sergeant at Mace attending during the morning. They all had their blood pressure checked, and had a good time chatting to the volunteers and passers-by.
