Rotary Club of Stirling meeting of 23rd August.
President Sandy Farquharson welcomed members to a business meeting at which he reported on topics discussed at the recent district area meeting. There was a very informative talk on Health and Safety laying out some new duties which clubs must cover when organising any activity,
in particular formal risk assessment before any event. RYLA, long standing and successful camps organised for teenagers, is now finding very few boys applying, although the girl's week remains popular. Arising from this it has been proposed that the two weeks should be combined, which has caused considerable discussion, although this has been the case for some time in most other Rotary districts, with no problems. The matter is still under discussion. At district level the idea of working with other Rotary clubs or indeed other organisations when running any major project is increasingly discussed.
We were reminded that the second leg of the Harry Rankine fishing trophy is still to take place on the Lake of Menteith, the first leg having been abandoned due to bad weather. The first of our monthly Thursday evening meetings will be on 5th September, when our speaker will be from Ochil Mountain Rescue. Next week will be a fellowship meeting,
visitor's host Malcolm Cordwell Smith.
