Busy Rotary meeting
What a week this has been for the members of the Rotary Club of East Sutherland and their meeting on Wednesday 3rd July was no exception. Our first speaker was local (well Helmsdale) member Gillian Armstrong who joined about 6 months ago and gave her job/life talk to the members. Entertaining and educational it was but most importantly it demonstrated a joy for life and a determination to help others—what better qualification to be in Rotary. Secondly Ward Pollard, one of 3 Australian visitors on the night from SW Austrailia, who is the assistant District Governor for that area and a member of the Rotary Club of Mossman, joined Vice President Alistair Risk in an exchange of banners and gave a talk on World Wide Fellowship in Rotary. He also told us about the activities of his club—something with an uncanny similarity to our own.
Finally, Alistair who had just returned from taking part in the World Polio Presentation in the House of Commons gave a brief account of that important event which involved Rotary, Unicef, The World Health Organisation, Government International Aid agencies, Ministers and MPs as well as scientific experts and representatives of several Countries and their diplomats. All of whom were discussing Polio eradication and the methods and protocols needed to bring success one of which was the need to combat the false information being sent on social media to deter families from vaccination programs.
