Plans for 2019-2020. A very full programme!

Foundation Committee's projects for 2019/20

This coming Rotary year, the Foundation Committee plan to commit our funds raised to supporting Langholm Rotary Club’s Global Grant Project “On Call Africa”

On Call Africa is a small Scottish Registered Charity set up in 2010 by three young Scottish Doctors and an International Aid Specialist. Their Charitable Purpose is the advancement of health in rural areas of need in Africa, where the population have little or no access to medical services.

The focus of Langholm RC’s project is to reach more patients and to improve the reliability of service. The target, in association with the Rotary Clubs of Kilsyth and Livingstone, Zambia, is to provide a Toyota Landcruiser ambulance, which will carry nine staff out to the rural clinics.

The estimated cost of the project is £35,000 and along with the Rotary Club of Livingstone, they are applying for a Global Grant but need to raise at least £14,000 locally. To this end, Langholm are seeking the involvement of other Border Clubs to help reach the target and Hawick Rotary Club are delighted to be able to support our daughter club in this worthwhile project.

In terms of Fund-raising, our main fundraiser venture is yet to be decided upon. Our committee have discussed the possibility of holding a Table-top Sale with a Silent Auction. We will also look at, once again, holding a Film night but only if costs of hiring the local cinema and the hire of a suitable film are cost effective. Watch this space!

We will also continue supporting the End Polio Now campaign.

We will be continuing the weekly Bonus Ball draw which has proved popular since it was started four years ago, in that time, the Club has raised over £1,500 for End Polio with a similar amount paid out in prize money.

Finally I would still like to encourage as many members as possible to become “Sustaining Members” donating individually at least ($100) which is about £79 per year to Foundation's Annual Programmes Fund. This fund is the life blood of Rotary’s ability to continue to do good throughout the world.

By contributing to the Annual Programmes Fund, ordinary club Rotarians are able to change people's lives throughout the world, in many cases, dramatically for the better.

These are the Foundation Committee plans for the coming Rotary year and we trust the club will support us in implementing these.....
