On Thursday 20th June 2019 President Anne Sampson officiated fully at her last meeting as President as she welcomed 15 Cub Rotarians, 3 guests of Rotarians and speaker Rotarian John Minnhinick to this lunch time meeting held in the Gilvenbank Hotel, Glenrothes.

On reception saw the welcome return of Attendance Officer Peter May and Geoff Sampson who said grace.

Prior to lunch President Anne Sampson presented the summer gratuity to the Gilvenbank staff for all their work during the first 6 months. She also mentioned that as a result of the passing of Honorary member Alex Clark’s at his funeral a donation of £250 was given for Rotary Foundation. His Funeral service was a real tribute to a true gentleman he will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

At last Monday night’s fundraiser at the REYA the club benevolent fund benefitted by £315, well done to all those who attended a lovely evening with fine food and much thanks to the REYA restaurant for their generosity.

Our speaker this week was Rotarian John Minnhinick previously a Rotary GB&I president and now a member of the Rotary Club of Burntisland and Kinghorn who came to talk about Parkinson’s in Fife. With over 800 people affected in Fife Glenrothes have established drop in Cafes in order that those sufferers of this can meet up and chat along with partners and or friends. At a recent meeting in the Lomond centre they expected enough to fill a room and had to expand to three rooms with over 65 attending.  The group offer information, friendship and support to local people with Parkinson's, their families and carers.

They also organise regular events and social activities. He spoke about the origins of Parkinson’s stating that James Parkinson was most famous for publishing 'An Essay on the Shaking Palsy' in 1817, which established Parkinson's as a recognised medical condition. He was a pioneer not only in medicine but also in his scientific and political interests. The son of an apothecary and surgeon, he was born on 11 April 1755. This is why they hold Parkinson's Awareness Week in April each year, and 11 April is now World Parkinson's Day.

Lindsay Roy gave the Rotary Vote of thanks stating that Parkinson’s is not a death sentence but a life sentence.

This coming week Thursday 27th June 2019 is a lunch time meeting to be held at the Gilvenbank Hotel Glenrothes meeting at 12.45pm for starting at 12.55pm.

This week our speaker will be Tom Mitchell from the Puddledub Farm, in the chair in the absence of President Anne Sampson will be SVP Ewen MacDonald.
