Friends of Rotary

John and Barbara Jones are friends of our club and regular participants in the Swimathon. This year they raised nearly £500 for Rotary charities.

Record breakers

John and Barbara Jones have helped at the Swimathon for many years – as lane Marshalls but also swimming in the Rotary team. During that time they have raised several hundred pounds, being sponsored by their friends and members of their local church, All Saints, Odd Rode.

Barbara is no longer able to swim in the event but in March this year the sponsorship raised by John’s swimming totalled £495. This is the highest amount collected by an individual, thanks to John and Barbara.

At a recent Rotary meeting, the Club paid tribute to their efforts and John was presented with a special Certificate of Achievement by President-elect, Richard Hovey, recognising the amount he raised this year

John and Barbara said how much they have enjoyed the Swimathon event over the years and paid tribute to the generosity of all their friends and said that they were always pleased to help in raising funds for such worthwhile Rotary projects.

Rotarian Hovey said that the Club owes a tremendous debt of gratitude to both Barbara and John – neither of whom are members of the Rotary Club but are very much Friends of Rotary – for their valuable help and support over many years and congratulated John on his swimming record at this year’s Swimathon which resulted in an amazing amount of sponsorship.
