Rocket 190 Celebrations
Rocket 190 Celebration and Rainhill Galathumbnail view
Rainhill Rotary Club President, Tony Lewis, has shared his
delight at the success of the Rocket 190 weekend and the level of support from
the public, community, residents and families, national and international
visitors who made a great effort to visit the area for the weekend
activities. What a triumph the event was!!
The celebration over the 3 days (25th – 27th May
2019), has been in planning for well over 3 years and Rainhill Rotary were
asked to join the Rocket 190 steering group committee to help with the
procession and also providing manpower for the weekend.
Tony set up a Rotary sub- committee which focussed on the Sunday procession and the working relationship with the Rocket 190 Steering Group, Brian Heydon (Chairman), Derek Long (St.Helens Councillor), Gill Pinder (Town Clerk, Rainhill Parish Council), Robin Barnes, Steve and Zoe Clarke (Rainhill Gala), Chris Tigwell and Barrie Rushton (Rainhill Railway Heritage Society) and other group representatives including local Parish Councillors. Many thanks to all the above for their hard work and engagement with the event.
Tony would also like to thank the participants of the Rocket 190 Parade along with their followers and supporters for their invaluable contribution on the day.
From a Rotary perspective, Tony gives special thanks to colleagues Paul Worrall, Gordon Lowe, Alan Sweatman for their contribution on the Rocket 190 Steering Group and to Gordon Webber for his input on the Photography competition. Further thanks to all the Rotary colleagues who volunteered to provide a marshalling service on the day, manning the access roads along Warrington Road from the Ship Hotel to the village and also to the event marshalls who escorted the parade en-route.
Special thanks must go to our Beer Festival Committee
members, especially Colin Brannelly and Dave Potter, for the work undertaken on
the Rotary Float; it was exceptional, well done!! Thanks also to Santa and his
two Elves and the "bar staff” Colin and Mal, who manned the float, the most popular spot in the parade.
Moving to the Rainhill Gala on the Bank Holiday Monday, our
members once again turned out to support the event with our Beer tent being
relocated to the Village Hall at very short notice, many thanks!!
Finally, Tony would like to invite anyone who may be interested in joining our club as a new member or as a “friend“ of Rainhill Rotary Club to visit our website for contact details or via our Rotary Facebook page.
