Participants must assume liability for any injury or harm they cause or receive and should cover such risks by their own insurance arrangements.  Insurance cover is not provided by Lostwithiel Rotary Club in respect of any injury whilst participating in the events of Carnival Week.

 

2019 Carnival Events

Notwithstanding our disclaimer above, carnival is all about enjoyment.  In order to bring carnival to you, the Rotary Club of Lostwithiel has:

  • Carried out extensive planning.
  • Sought out sponsorship and undertaken its own fundraising.
  • Obtained the support of many other organisations within the town.
  • Undertaken numerous risk assessments.
  • Obtained relevent permissions and licences from Cornwall and Lostwithiel councils.

All we need from you, now, is for you to turn up and to have fun!

For full details, please check out the Carnival Programme which will be delivered free of charge in late June/early July to all households in Lostwithiel and which will also be available from most retail outlets within the town.  Or else click on the link below.

Sunday 14th July 2019 - Charity Fayre Day

King George V Playing Field from 12 noon to 5pm.

Attractions will include: Hawaiian Kids' Games, Flora Dance, Cornish Wrestling, Town Band, Fire Brigade Demo, It's a Knockout, Junior Raft Race, Cornwall Search and Rescue, Barbecue, Bar, Charity Stalls, Cream Teas and possibly a Land On by the Cornwall Air Ambulance.

Monday 15th July 2019 - Cricket Competition

King George V Playing Field from 5:30pm to dusk.

Participating teams: Ship Inn Lerryn, Kings Arms Roundheads, Kings Arms Cavaliers, Duchy Timber, Lostwithiel Young Farmers, Globe Inn, Royal Oak, AP Bassett Solicitors, Lostwithiel Rotary, Trewithen Dairy, Duchy Nursery, Premier Products and Lostwithiel School.

Tuesday 16th July 2019 - Rounders Competition

King George V Playing Field from 5:30pm to dusk.

The junior competition (12 years and under) will start at 5:30pm.  The open class will start at 6:45pm.

Wednesday 17th July 2019 - Pram Race

Town Centre from 6pm to 7:30pm.

The race for under 12 years olds will start at 6:15pm, for under 18 years olds at 6:30pm and for adults at 6:45pm.  All participants must wear helmets.  In each race there will be prizes for the winners and the best fancy dress.

Wednesday 17th July 2019 - Concert

St Bartholomews Church from 7:45pm to 10pm (note earlier start time) and then afterwards at the Royal Oak Inn for the sing-a-long.

Compered by Andrew Jeffery with performances by the Lostwithiel Town Band under the direction of Norman Pendray and by the Wadebridge Male Voice Choir under the direction of Gavin Stubberfield.

Thursday 18th July 2019 - Street Party

Town Centre from 4pm to 11pm.

Attractions will include: Chloe the Clown, Jules the Ventriloquist, Punch & Judy, Magic Show, Adult Raft Race, Duck Race, Free Fruit Shakes & Ice Cream, Hog Roast, Barbecue, 2 Beach Hut Bars and Live Music from Cyderfex.

Friday 19th July 2019 - Football Competition

King George V Playing Field from 4:15pm to dusk.

Competition held in memory of Phil Smith.  Youth matches will start at 4:15pm.  Adult matches will start at 5:30pm.

Saturday 20th July 2019 - Carnival Procession

King George V Playing Field from 5pm and around the Town Centre from 6pm to 7:30pm.

Assemble in the playing field from 5pm for judging which will start at 5:15pm. Prizes will be awarded on the playing field before moving off at 6pm. The procession will route through Pleyber Christ Way, Liddicoat Rd/Queen St (A390), Fore St, The Parade, North St, Queen St (A390), Fore St and finishing on The Parade for the evenings celebrations.  The procession will not cross the medieval bridge due to problems experienced in past years with crossing the railway line.  The drivers of all vehicles wishing to join the carnival procession must sign and return the Carnival Procession Motor Vehicle Certificate below:

Saturday 20th July 2019 - Carnival Party

The Parade Gardens from 5:30pm to 10pm.

Delicious Hot Food and Licenced Bar from 5:30pm and Live Music from 8pm.

 

Saturday 20th July 2019 - Carnival Fireworks

Medieval Bridge, Parade and Car Parks from 10:15pm.

The fireworks will be fired from the King George V playing field and for everyone's safety the field will be an exclusion zone from 7pm on the day, with all access gates locked. The display will be aimed towards the town and the best viewing points will be the Medieval Bridge, the Parade and all the car parks.
