£1000 of Pennies for RNLI. Whitchurch primary School Rotakids

RNLI at Whitchurch Primary School

A MOUNTAIN OF PENNIES FOR THE RLNI

The Rotakids at Whitchurch Primary School invited the RNLI Penarth volunteers to attend the school on 26th March to give pupils a talk about the work of the RNLI saving the lives of people who get into difficulty in our waterways, 365 days of the year and in all weather conditions. The Rotakids had already held a fun event at the School disco, raising £32.50 in two hours and Rotakids’ President Reuben Turpy presented a cheque to the Chair of the RNLI Penarth station Laurie Pavelin. In addition President Michael Sant presented a cheque on behalf of the Rotary Club of Cardiff Breakfast.

The RNLI presentation included a film of rescues at sea and one of the volunteer crew then dressed up in full kit in the record time of 48 seconds. Following this fascinating presentation the Rotakids decided to organise a fundraising week. Bright RNLI yellow wellies were placed in each classroom with the aim of filling them with pennies. On the 3rd April Rotakids collected all the wellies from each class and poured out a mountain of pennies. A staggering £1000.48 was collected to support the RNLI.

A huge thankyou to the Rotakids for organising this event and to all the pupils in the school for giving so generously to support this worthwhile charity.
