From Hill to High Water by Anne Lindley and Mick Curran
All operational volunteers are trained to the highest standards and dedicate much of their free time to going on courses and attending exercise classes to maintain a good level of fitness.
On the 26th March we were given a talk by Anne Lindley and Mick Curran from Nottinghamshire Search and Rescue a registered Charity and part of the Lowland Rescue umbrella.
All operational volunteers are trained to the highest standards and dedicate much of their free time to going on courses and attending exercise classes to maintain a good level of fitness.
For a volunteer to be allowed to participate in a ‘live’ search a number of competencies must be met. These include :searcher safety, health and safety and risk awareness ,water safety to Defra standards ,search skills and techniques , missing persons characteristics ,briefing and debriefing, team work ,medical support ,navigation ,communication and operations control.
N S A R T are called upon by the Police to help with emergencies
In addition to searching by foot NSART are developing capabilities for search dogs, bike and kayak teams as well as being able to respond to local and national situations.
N S A R T have only been in existing for 10 years and have 40 volunteer members. The organisation relies entirely on voluntary donation. The immediate requirements are for £10.000 per year to cover operational costs. They are another great example of a team saving lives and operating solely with dedicated volunteers and NO Government funding . Where would we be without them ??????
