Christians Abroad - A project of Churches Together in Britain and Ireland

Alistair Sutton chartered surveyor and member of the Rotary Club of Leven was the speaker talking about projects in Amman Jordan, Ramallah and Bethlehem in Galilee and West Banks.

Alistair is an Associate for the charity which allows him to set up projects abroad.  The charity works through local churches. Refugee response involving young adults working together and mobilised through the local church.

The project teams up with Sunni Bedouin assisting Assyrian refugees who have escaped the persecution in Iraq. Bedouins are setting up camps for these refugees.

Respite is offered in a week’s camp giving trauma counselling and time out to have good discussion - Christians talking to Moslems.

In Galilee three different church groups. Jews and Arabs trying to understand each other’s viewpoints and addressing reconciliation. Helping to see each other as normal.

In Katmandu, Nepal the same charity, ChristiansAbroad, works with young adults through local churches. Dealing with orphans from the earthquake and from Mao extremists. Leven Rotary Club is fundraising for a drop in centre there.

Other operate in Kenya including a micro finance project.

Faith abroad is important. Rotary has a strong emphasis with the church so it is something that we can really work through.
