On Saturday 16th March , two schools from the West of Scotland competed with two teams from the North of Scotland in the Regional Final of Rotary’s ‘Youth Speaks’ senior competition held at Stirling University.
Speaking on the topic of ‘Weeds or Wild Flowers”, Hutcheson’ Grammar won a closely fought contest from Kirkcaldy High who finished as Runners-up. Hutcheson’ Grammar now go forward to the National Final on Sunday 12th May at the Rotary Annual Showcase in Nottingham. Their winning team was: - Owen Gould (Chairperson), Aubrey McCance (Speaker) and Sara Ahmed (Vote of Thanks)
Alasdair Gammack, chairman of the judges said, “The quality was awesome .. There were no losers on the day- it was tremendous! It rekindles the hope for the future for young people”. Similarly, West of Scotland District Governor Jim Ross when presenting the prizes said “Today was a fantastic example of young people in this country embracing the ethos of Rotary”.
The full list of competing schools were:- Aboyne Academy (North of Scotland), Hutchesons’ Grammar (West of Scotland), Kirkcaldy High (North of Scotland) and St Andrew’s & St Bride’s (West of Scotland)
