John Fordyce explains the distilling business to Hawick Rotarians and their friends

Members and friends enjoyed a different form of meeting last Thursday when they met at The Borders Distillery in Commercial Road to be given a tour of the premises by one of the founders, John Fordyce. This proved an informative and entertaining visit, with members throughout asking questions on the development of the project and on the distilling process. They learned of the conservation of the old building, of the sourcing of the raw materials from around the Borders, and of the opportunities for local people to take up careers within distilling.

At the close of the tour, sampling of the venture's gin, vodka and whisky was offered and this was accompanied by further questioning on the derivation of the trade names and on the marketing of the products.

President Mairhi Trickett thanked John Fordyce on behalf of the party for his very open and informative presentation.

Members and friends then met again at Mansfield House Hotel for their weekly meal and to discuss several items of business. Preparations are in hand for this year's District Conference at Aviemore in late October and once again there will be a good representation of local Rotarians. There are also the President's Nights for several Borders Clubs and Hawick will be represented at the Galashiels, Langholm and Jedburgh events. These Nights were traditionally Dinner Dances but, as a sign of the way times are changing, these three events will this year take the form of a Curry & Film Night ('Some Like it Hot'!), a Dinner Dance, and an early Dinner before a visit to the Theatre.
