The meeting this week was a business meeting during which the Secretary, Treasurer and Club Committees reported back on any past or forthcoming activities.
The latest Youth activity was the Photography Competition hosted by Sainsburys – the overall winner was Lucy Whellans, with Andrea Brennan as runner up – both girls will be entered in the Rotary District 1020 finals. Fuller details below.

The Rotary Young Photographer competition saw entries from 11 pupils under Miss Suzanne Alderson from Hawick High School. It is a competition designed to support and encourage development of photographic skills. The task was to produce a portfolio of three photographs based upon the theme ‘Beauty of Nature’ as well as providing a brief sentence of what each photograph represented in relation to the theme.
The competition aims to encourage young people to:
Karen Thomson, the PR Ambassador for Sainsbury’s in
Hawick, displayed all the anonymised photographs within Sainsbury’s and it
took quite a while to count the voting slips as there were so many of them!
It was a close-run contest as the standard was so high.
However
entrant H was the overall winner of the Local Heat which belonged to Lucy
Whellans whilst second place was entrant C which belonged to Andrea Brennan.
This is good as they can both progress to the next round as Lucy is in the
senior age group of 14-17 years whilst Andrea is in the intermediate age
group of 11-13 years, as of the qualifying date.
These two portfolios now go on to the District Competition and the winners of that round are decided by the end of March, with the National Final being early April.
