MORPETH ROTARY CHANGE OF PRESIDENT

President Bob Kendall came to the end of his year as President of Morpeth Rotary at the end of June. He looked back on how the year had gone. He thought he had achieved around 75% of the targets he set out a year ago. There had been two new members; two ShelterBoxes to assist with emergencies throughout the world had been purchased with another on the way; an AquaBox had been bought; members had done their bit for the Rotary International Foundation charity which also helps to get rid of polio; assistance had been given to refugees; fundraising social events were held with the Lions and with Inner Wheel; visits were arranged to Rotary clubs in Alnwick and Blyth; he went with a group to the Rotary regional conference in Harrogate; committee chairs and officers have been a great support and are thanked; new catering arrangements are in place and under review; President’s Night organised by Vice President Martyn Jenkins was a great success; Rhona Dunn led a marvellous effort with the Tree of Light which raised £1400 for each of the three charities of Henry Dancer Days, Cleasewell Hill School and MIND Northumberland; money has been put in place for a defibrillator in the marketplace; assistance given to Changing Lives; donations have been made to a number of local charities; there were good fundraising efforts organised by Kevin Dunlop at Morrisons and Lollo Rosso with money paid towards outdoor gym equipment at Collingwood School; the junior brass band has been supported; Michael Duffy was thanked for arranging the Christmas Ellington Brass Band concert, a charity barbeque and for researching new arrangements for how clubs should work in the future; Gordon Bolton was thanked for arranging the photo contest; Alan Beal for the pudding contest; Barry Swan for the golfing tournaments; Stan Bryce for Burns Night; Alan Barron for the three way quiz; and Laurie Walker and Mark Thomas for setting up the new facebook page. Other donations have been made to Mighty Oaks Football Club, Morpeth Methodist Church, Contact Mental Health, and the Activity Group. Over the year the club has raised over £16,000. The job of President had been a daunting task to take on at the start of the year but with the help of Secretary John Pringle and other Rotarians Bob has had the confidence and support to make it an enjoyable and successful year. He thanked members for granting him the privilege of being President and wished new President Martyn Jenkins all the best for the coming year.
