Youth Speaks - Senior Competition. At Whitchurch High School, Upper School Library, Penlline Road

Winning team from Whitchurch High School

There were two teams from Ysgol Bro Edern and one team from Whitchurch High School. All gave presentations of a very high standard. The winning team was Oscar, Megan and Marika from WHS on the topic "This House Believes in Robot Rights" but the winning Chairperson was Bethan from Ysgol Bro Edern and winning Vote of Thanks was Meg Griffiths, also from Ysgol Bro Edern. The winning team will go on to the Area Round to be held on Thursday February 7th at Llanishen Golf Club.

We have only one team going forward for the Area Intermediate Competition on February 7th at Llanishen Golf Club and Lili, Betsy and Elunid from Ysgol Bro Edern gave their presentation on "The Gender Pay Gap" as a rehearsal for the next round.

The teams were well supported by teachers and parents as well as club members.

Our President, Michael Sant, also took the opportunity to present Bethan Powell with a cheque for £500 for the 5Cs Charity. Bethan is an Honorary member who was providing the refreshments. She is the Chair of the Trusteesof the Charity and volunteer Coordinator.

Chernobyl Children Cancer Care Cardiff (The 5Cs) is a non political, non denominational, Cardiff based charity that is officially twinned with the Belarusian Children's Hospice in Minsk, the capital of Belarus.

It’s main purpose is in working with the Hospice to provide financial support and volunteers to care for children and families at the annual Summer Camp at Zabrodia The majority of the team are under 25 and have first-hand experience of volunteering in Belarus.

5Cs work closely with the Friends of the Belarusian Children's Hospice (UK)
