An update report on Rotary's Partnership with the Freedom From Fistula (FFF) revealed that the first cohort of Malawi Midwifes had successfully graduated in November and were now practicing in Malawi. The second and third cohorts are on stream to graduate in 2019.

The Landcruiser Ambulances provided are operating on a daily basis either transporting patients to hospital or carrying staff out into the remote rural areas to conduct outreach clinics.
The total value of these two Global Grants was almost $300,000 USD.

The next step is to use Rotary's resources to support FFF in their efforts to address the huge Fistula case load in Sierra Leone which has been exacerbated as a result of unforeseen consequences of the Ebola Crisis.
This entails supporting the work of the Aberdeen Women’s Centre Hospital in Freetown, SL where every year 250 Fistula surgeries are performed; 3,000 babies are born; and 20,000 children are treated.

The project will come under the Maternal and Child Health heading of Rotary's Six Areas of Focus. The target value of the project is $500,000 USD of which clubs must raise $200,000 USD which The Rotary Foundation will then match with a further $300,000.

Allan thanked the Currie Balerno Club for their leadership and support of this project and would welcome further support..

International and Foundation Chair, Ken Lindsay, thanked Allan for his enthusiastic presentation and invited him to attend the next meeting of the I&F Committee to share more information.
