RotaKids trek around Narberth

Five Narberth & Whitland Rotarians had Great fun with Mrs. Nia Ward the Primary School Headteacher and Narberth RotaKids at the school on Friday morning for BBC Children in Need

The pupils have already surpassed last year's total with a bucket collection around Narberth town.

Starting from the new school premises on the East Side of Town the children were split into two groups. One was led by Mrs. Ward with Rotarians John Sleigh and Sue Davey in tow. They took a route along one side of the road. The other group led by Teacher Miss Page and Rotarians Ken Morgan, Sue Pridmore and Mary Adams crossed to the other side of the rode. The two groups snaked a route meandering clockwise around the Town Centre raiding all the shops and businesses who were very generous in their support with their customers.

The exercise encouraged the Children to ask politely for donations and they comfortably mixed with Narberth people before heading back and counting their bucket totals in the school staff room. Mrs. Ward commented that "this was a brilliant and useful exercise in organisation skills because the children had to devise their own strategies for sifting and sorting the mixed coinage and notes and then arrive at their individual totals".

The 11 pupils then had to divide the total raised in their buckets to calculate the average raised per person. This gave them a good insight into the practical application of mathematics skills and working out the average.

This bucket collection was organised by Narberth and Whitland Rotary Cluband both the School and the Rotary Club were grateful to Narberth Businesses and Public for giving so generously. A total of £402.24 was collected. This is not the final total as there are several other events at the school which will boost the money raised by the school for the Children in Need Appeal. Separately they also had a Raffle and a few other fund-raising schemes. The grand total at the end of the day will be communicated to BBC Wales for publication in the TV show.
