Weekly meeting with guest speaker

Rotary met for our weekly meal at Mansfield House Hotel (always excellent) – the President welcomed our Assistant Governor Jonathon Moore and our two guest speakers for the evening – Andy Maybury and Ken Turnbull. After a small amount of business – including forming two quiz teams to take part in Selkirk Rotary’s fund raising quiz – Jonathon Moore brought greetings from his club in Whitburn and gave us information regarding the upcoming Conference weekend in Aberdeen. This will be attended by 12 Members and partners who are looking forward to an informative, amusing and fun weekend!

Andy Maybury then gave an informative presentation on behalf of the Hawick Community Energy Project – This involves harnessing the River Teviot at the Cobble Cauld to generate electricity. This could be used by the High School and would also provide a valuable learning project for the pupils.

The Reverse Archimedes Screw generator has been used successfully in several localities and would be situated on the High School side of the Cauld. As local people would be able to buy shares in this project with a good return for their money it would be a local Hawick project.

The level of interest by the members was reflected by the many questions asked and the president thanked Andy for his information on an exciting new project.
