Tower Walk

Mass walk up to Darwen Tower to raise community awareness of the need to restore the monument and to raise funds towards this

The walk had originally been organised for July but had to be cancelled due to the fire risk on the moors following the very long spell of hot and dry weather.

It was rescheduled for the August Bank Holliday Sunday. Walkers would set out independently and climb up the moor by their own chosen route.  They would meet at the Tower at 12:00 for a brief ceremony which would be filmed by both a film crew and drones.

The film would be used as part of the evidence of community involvement as part of a Heritage Lottery application towards the £100,000 needed to fully restore the Tower.

The weather on the day was poor but, as many of the participants had become aware of the event from social and other media cover, it was decided not to cancel it.   While the poor weather certainly put off some potential walkers, over 400 people made the trek up to the Tower and about £600 was collected towards the fund.
