Our Community Services Team went into action to paint the damaged part of the lamp posts and some metal furniture initially in the Square in Sandbach town centre.

Our club is keen to ensure that our town centre is kept tidy and beautiful. A few weeks ago, while walking through the High Street in Sandbach, I noticed the poor condition of the lamp posts and other items of street furniture which needed a fresh coat of paint. I alerted the Community Service team and, as usual, the team was keen to show that ‘We’re for Communities’ and decided to give the lamp posts a fresh look.

On Sunday 5th August Rtn. Richard Hovey (our Town Mayor ), Rtn. Keith Merry and I met at the Market Square at 6.30pm in glorious sunshine with brushes and paint and painted a number of lamp posts and metal waste bins.

It was encouraging to receive plaudits from people strolling around the square but the highlight of the appreciation was shown by the licencee of the new “Bar Six” wine bar who came out with a tray full of much-needed drinks. In the course of the conversation we learned that he was a former member of Round Table and the Rotary Club of Haslington. We thanked him for the drink and finished the work for now.

After two hours of work, the lamp posts and other metal items were looking as fresh as new, but there is much more to do on another day.
