Another hugely successful Wells Charity Boules Tournament, organised by the Rotary Clubs of Avalon and Wells, was held in a very hot and sunny Market Place on Sunday 8th July.

Forty eight teams played throughout the day to a close finish between regular players Le Bar victorious over Michel’s Kitchen, who have played every year since the tournament began in 2000.

“As ever, we have so many people to thank for helping make the Boules Tournament such a tremendous success,” said organiser Adrian Lawrence. “Aggregate Industries and RM Penny for generously supplying and transporting the grit used to make the Pistes on the Market Place, with the muscle of Wells Rugby Club ensuring it is all set-up and cleaned away after the event. We are grateful to the Wells Town Hall for allowing us to use their space as well as the fantastic team at The Crown who kept everyone fed and watered so well. Lastly, we are indebted to the organisations who sponsor Piste boards and of course the teams that play.”

Just shy of £5,000 was raised through team entries and sponsorship of Piste boards which will go directly to projects funded by The Nepal Trust and local Rotary clubs.

The Wells Charity Boules Tournament was conceived 18 years ago following a trek to Nepal by Rotary Club members to help build a health centre in a remote part of the country. With the latest Boules tournament, a total of £95,000 has been raised since that time.
