Memory Boxes

Kenny McLachlan is the guest speaker

Kenny gave a very interesting talk on 'Memory Boxes'.  It was a fascinating and amusingly entertaining talk about his innovative idea of the provision of small boxes to unfortunate folk suffering from Alzheimer's/dementia.

The objective was to use the contents of the boxes to encourage interest and speech in such folk, either at home or in their care homes.

The idea was for family members of the 'patient' to provide items from their past, put it into a cardboard box and use it to trigger memories when engaging in conversation.

He told us the idea had achieved success in that it 'opened up' conversation when otherwise the person would be quiet.  The concept was even spreading to other areas. Great idea and we wish him well.
