Rotary club of Stirling meeting of 8th March.
President Sandy Farquharson welcomed members and reminded them that the club assembly will now be on Thursday 26th June, and the presidential handover on Friday 5th July.
Our speaker Rotarian Tom Wilson's talk was entitled "the red case". He brought the case along for us to inspect, both case and its contents.
Tom's family was originally from a farming background, producing over twenty years five children, two boys and three girls, all very intelligent some earning Dux medals at school. The boys both trained at Auchincruive, and eventually being involved in milk distribution. One of the girls moved South ending up high in the civil service, and it was from her, Helen {Nellie] that the case passed to Tom, only to lie unopened for many years. Much later while clearing out Tom came across it again, and on opening it found a treasure trove of family history.
Photographs, some he could identify but others unknown and among other items a beautiful solid silver Dux medal, an MBE with it's paperwork, and a drawing of one of the girls by the cartoonist Coia. So, if you have unopened case in the loft perhaps you should see what it contains.
Next week will be a business meeting Visitor's host Faye McPherson.
