Rotary Award for Robin
At a recent meeting of the Rotary Club of South Foreland members were delighted to see Robin Dodridge receive a Paul Harris Fellowship from President David Gilchrist. This is a Rotary Award for service to club and community.
Robin, Club President in 2000/2001 and 2014/2015, has made an exceptional contribution to the 2017/2018 Rotary Year. He organised the two week rota for the British Legion poppy appeal last November, the club’s part, with Dover Rotary Club, in the town Christmas lights switch on in early December featuring Santa’s Grotto, as well as three days’ charity collection outside Morrisons just before Christmas. In the new year he led a team of volunteers giving tutorials on ‘Preparation for Work’ to Year 11 students at St Edmund’s RC School. In May Robin headed a group of eight club members with two cars, taking part in the ‘Rotary Grand Tour’ of Great Britain. This was a national event to raise funds for the ‘End Polio Now Campaign’: through sponsorship and donations the club raised nearly £9,000 towards the overall total of £120,000.
As well as local work, Robin chairs the District Community Response Team, giving presentations to other clubs on the ways in which Rotarians may contribute to local and national emergencies. He has been the moving force behind plans for a satellite club and for having a Rotary ‘Wishing Well’ on the seafront. Robin’s experience, wisdom and drive are much appreciated by the club and recognised through this award.
As the Rotary Year draws to an end the Club Handover to our new President, Suzanne Taylor-Warren, will be on 27th June. Suzanne has led the club in a thorough review of its structure and procedures: she will be our second Lady President.
