In the picture with Rotary President Ann is Charlotte Bell, Chairman of Highworth Tennis Club, and 14-year old tennis club member Amy Thomas.
It is thought, from photographs, that Highworth Tennis Club started in the 1930s moving to its current location in the 1950s. At that time the Club had three courts, today it has five. The Club currently has 140 members. The age range is from 4 to 70 years old. Tennis is played all year round – even in the snow!!!!
There are open days twice a year where anyone can come along and try tennis. The Club offers Walking Tennis and Mini Tennis for juniors. Wheelchair Tennis is also something the Club would like to offer in the future.
Only three of the courts have lights at the moment and the Club is hoping to raise £60,000 so the other two courts can be lit and evening tennis offered to more members. Two of the courts will also be netball courts which can be hired out when tennis is not being played.
A junior member, Amy Thomas aged 14, spoke to us about she enjoys playing and now takes part in competitions. She also said it was challenging for her when she played against adults at the Club. Her father and brother also play tennis and are members.

Rotary’s second major donation, of £208,000, was handed over on 7th July 2021 when local Rotarians visited the Great Western Hospital to view the build progress of the nearly completed radiotherapy unit.

We went to the races in March. It was a meeting with 10 races, 8 riders in each. It wasn’t at Epsom, or Haydock Park, or just up the M4 at Newbury. It was, of all places, in Wanborough Village Hall.
