Llantwit Major School hosted the annual Young Inventor Competition

This year’s Rotary Young Inventor Competition was held in Llantwit Major Comprehensive School on Tuesday the 8th May with 6 competitors from years 12 and 13 taking part. All of the entries were to a very high standard. The six presentations were excellent with detailed information on the extensive research that each entrant had carried out in developing their ideas. There was a wide variation in both scope and subject area which made judging very difficult. The difficulty was exacerbated by the fact that each project had its merits with little to choose between each invention.  After much deliberation Joshua Mundy with his performance horse shoe grips was declared winner with Harry Bligh and Robert Vivian second and third respectively. Joseff Evans, Ethan Osman and Luke Pilcher were unlucky to miss out as their ideas were highly commendable. Some of the projects had potential for commercial development and the inventors were advised to consider protecting their ownership of the ideas. Their teacher, Mr Alec Stephens, considered that this year’s submissions were amongst the best he has seen for some time. The Young Inventor Competition is one of many Youth Competitions organised by Rotary Clubs throughout the UK and Ireland. The main aims of the competitions are to stimulate interest in the particular area and provide skills that enhance the quality of life.
