We couldn’t have asked for better weather over the Bank Holiday weekend from 4th-7th May 2018! The sun shone every day for the entire visit to the UK of 9 French Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Villemur et Frontonnais, near Toulouse, with whom we have well-established links. Various members of The Langley and Iver Rotary Club hosted our guests in their own homes and we provided a full programme of events for them.

Many of our French guests spoke English and a number of the English Rotarians speak French well, which helped with communications.

We did plenty of walking as we explored places like Windsor Castle, Eton, Savill Garden, Langley Country Park and the historic church of St. Mary’s, Langley with its famous Kederminster Library. We enjoyed a boat trip along the Thames and a tasting session at The Windsor and Eton Brewery. We entertained our guests (and ourselves) well with an English traditional ploughman’s lunch at The Waterman’s Arms in Eton and a dinner at The Swan, Iver. On the first evening Tony and Lynne Brown invited half of our guests round to their home for a fish and chip supper while Guy and Meenu Westhead provided the others with a sumptuous Indian meal at their home. Dee Lakhan hosted a barbeque in her garden on the Saturday evening.

Thanks must go to all members of our Rotary Club who worked so hard to ensure that the weekend was such a success, especially to those who organised and masterminded the event, others who hosted our guests for three nights, and to those who entertained in their homes. Hopefully this link will continue for many years to come.
