COSBY Community Library Project

After it was announced that Blaby District Council would be withdrawing their support for the local library in Cosby, various members of the village took up the option of converting the facility into a Community Library – a centre for community activities

Last summer members of the Rotary Club of Blaby Meridian organised a Teddy Bears’ Picnic in the field next to the library. This was enjoyed by many young children and their parents and also raised nearly £200 to help fund the library’s activities.

A reading group for pre-school children has now been set up. Meridian Rotarians identified the need to make the centre a less austere child-friendly environment by purchasing some soft play equipment with the help of funds from the Rotary Foundation. This is not just used for informal seating during the reading sessions but also for improvised play.

After formally presenting the equipment to the library, Martin Clarke, President of the Rotary Club, said “It’s quite a sight to see young children playing in a library! They really enjoy it. We are now looking at other ways to assist this valuable community project”
