Minutes of the Meeting

Held on Thursday, September 6th  2018

                                             At The Golf Club, Chestfield

Pat Mcfarlane:

If Andrew B. is reading this, Pat has changed colour again and will be looking for her £10.00.

Hilary Brian:

Best wishes to Hilary who has moved; her new address is on the Club Directory attached.

Golf Club Chef:

Stewart, the chef, will be leaving the Golf Club.    There is some uncertainty over what the Golf Club intends to do now and this will be discussed at the Board Meeting next Thursday.    Anyone who fancies their chances cooking egg, bacon and sausages are advised to keep quiet.

Tankerton Football Club:

Tankerton Football Club has thanked the Club for the donation of £100.

It was hoped that the link with the football club that was first suggested some years ago but which got a red card and never came to anything can be revived.

Bowls Taster Day:

The Bowls Taster Day was a great success and it was agreed to ask Dave C. to organize another in the New Year.

Table Tennis Evening:

Dave C., who is in touch with John Wickens and was also asked by the Club to organize another table-tennis evening in the New Year.

Car Parking, August 25th and September 2nd:

Godfrey was congratulated on organizing two car parkings in eight days which together raised over £1,100.     Godfrey expressed his gratitude for all the help he has been given especially for those who turned out at very short notice for a successful day on September 2nd.

Friday, September 7th, Club Charity Golf Day:

Nick has everything in hand and he will be at the Golf Club at 9.00 am to set up with Sue and David M.       He should have enough help to book in, sell raffle tickets or run the putting competition but anyone who can spare some time tomorrow would be very welcome.

Friday, September 7th to Sunday, September 9th, District Conference:

Just a reminder that the District Conference is this weekend.       It would seem from the  discussion was that the Club will be represented by two big ducks.

Saturday, September 8th, District Conference, Gala Dinner:

The Gala dinner will be held at Eliot College, University of Kent on the Saturday evening at 7.00 for 7.30 pm.

Thursday, September 13th, Board Meeting:

The next Board Meeting will be on Thursday, September, 13th at 7.30 pm at Sue’s house.

Saturday, September 22nd, Pilgrims’ Hospice, Night to Shine:

Forest of Blean RC is organising marshalling for the Pilgrims Hospice on their Night to Shine walk on September 22nd which is raising funds directly for the Hospice that was such a support for Daphne.      Forest of Blean RC, needs help and we should turn out if possible as they have always been very helpful in providing volunteers to help with Walk for Water.     Help from the Club would be really appreciated meeting at 1815 behind the bike shop on the city wall. The walks will start at 19.00 hrs at Westgate Hall.    There are two walks but marshals are needed only for the 3 mile event which should be over by 20.30 hrs and then everyone will go for a meal to which all marshals and partners are invited.     Please help if you can.    Sue is collecting names so please let her know if you can help on 01227 275547 or 0776 6042178 or susanvargyas@hotmail.com.

Sunday, September 23rd, Car Parking:

Our next scheduled car parking is on Sunday, September 23rd.  There is a form in the folder and Godfrey needs help thoughout the day so please sign up if you can help if only for an hour or so.

Friday, September 28th, Help for MS Therapy Centre, Fundraising Golf Day,:

The MS Therapy Centre has asked for help on their Fundraising Golf Day on Friday, September 28th at Chestfield Golf Club.     Players will be arriving at 7.30 am and their shorter golf day will end at 4.00 pm.   Help is needed at the beginning or end of the day to register players and to sell raffle tickets.   

There is a form in the folder if you can help.

Saturday, September 29th, Gardening at the Whit and Tank:

There is a form in the folder so please sign up if you can help starting at 9.30 am.

Friday, October 5th, Cheese & Wine Tasting Evening, Cheesbox, Whitstable:

The Club asked Ron to organize a Cheese and Wine Evening at the  Cheesebox in Whitstable but so far hardly anyone has signed up so he might be there on his own and you know how he is with cheese.    The evening will be on Friday, October 5th at a cost of £30.00 per person and there is a form in the folder but there is a limit of 30 persons so sign up soon.

Saturday, October 6th, Chestfield Parish Council, Shrub Bed Project,:

Just a reminder that Chestfield Parish Council, CCC and Serco are repeating the Shrub Bed project at the play park on Chestfield Road and need help on  Saturday 6 October 2018 starting at 10am.     If you can help there is a form in the folder.

Friday, 26th October, Demelza Pumpkin Hunt,:

Delmelza, one of the Club charities, are organizing a fundraising Pumpkin Hunt on Friday, October 26th and have appealed for volunteers to register participants and act as marshals.   There is a form in the folder.

Thursday, November 8th to Sunday, November 11th, Return of the Unknown:

To mark the centenary of the end of WWI the Marlow Theatre is presenting Return of the Unknown at Dover Marine Station where so many left for France never to return.     If you would like to join a group, please sign up on the form in the folder.

Sunday, November 11th, Whitstable Choral Society at St. Alphage’s:

On Sunday, November 11th there will be a service to mark Armistice Day at 6.00 pm at St. Alphage’s Church, Whitstable with the Whitstable Choral Society.

Georgina brought greetings from Lesley, President of Forest of Blean.

Raffle:

Owain snuck away early so when his ticket was drawn he nearly lost his bottle of bubbly but when his ticket came out a second time it was reluctantly recognized that there was no choice but to reward his determination.

Master of Alms:

Apparently Nick was having trouble with his emissions and his little car was missing.    Nevertheless, he managed a good haul as usual.
