Minutes of the Meeting

Held on Thursday, August 30th 2018

                                             At The Golf Club, Chestfield

Grace:           

Paul is getting the hang of this role as his graces are getting longer.

David Bowley:

Jean is visiting David two or three times a week.    He is making progress but very slowly nevertheless he intends to make it upstairs for the Armistice Dinner.    David is obviously a bit down at his slow recovery and would welcome visits or calls.

Reggie Taylor Harding:

Pat extended a warm welcome to septuagenarian Reggie.

Golf Club Chef:

Stewart, the chef, has handed in his notice from the Golf Club but it is hoped that an arrangement can be agreed that might persuade him to stay.   Godfrey will know more after a meeting at the Golf Club this evening.

Tankerton Football Club:

A sponsor for one of the teams at Tankerton Football Club has dropped out and they have appealed to the Club for help.    Pat proposed a donation of £100.00, Sue seconded the proposal which was agreed with two abstentions.

Friday, August 24th,  Bowls Taster Day at Chislet Bowls Club, Hersden:

The Bowls Taster Day was a great success.    Thanks are due to Dave C. for organizing it and for his colleagues for making everyone so welcome.    The event raised £150.00 which will be donated to Lewis March, the local table tennis virtuoso, as a contribution towards his national training expenses.

Saturday, August 25th, Car Parking:

The car parking on August 25th was very successful raising nearly £600.00.

Wednesday, August 29th, Greta Trip:

Cap’n Ron was out of luck again as, thanks to some really unpleasant weather, the Greta trip was cancelled for the second time.    He has given up for this year but make another another attempt in late Spring next year.

Sunday, September 2nd, Car Parking:

An opportunity has arisen for car parking next Sunday, September 2nd.   Godfrey put this to the meeting and several members volunteered.   Godfrey will check if this is still available and will let everyone know.

Friday, September 7th, Club Charity Golf Day:

A team has dropped out but Nick is still on the scrounge for raffle prizes.

Friday, September 7th to Sunday, September 9th, District Conference:

Just a reminder that the District Conference is now only days away.  

Saturday, September 8th, District Conference, Gala Dinner:

Time is running out to sign up for the dinner will be held at Eliot College, University of Kent on the evening of September 8th at 7.00 for 7.30 pm.      The Club is organizing a table for at least 8 persons and there is a form in the folder so please sign up but please be quick.

Saturday, September 15th, Safari Supper:

The Safari Supper scheduled for September 15th has been postponed as Robert S. will be on safari in France.    

Saturday, September 22nd, Pilgrims’ Hospice, Night to Shine:

Forest of Blean RC is organising Marshalling for the Pilgrims Hospice on their Night to Shine walk on September 22 . This is raising funds directly for the Hospice. They are short of marshals for this event and would really appreciate help from the Club meeting at 1815 behind the bike shed shop on the city wall for what Chris Jackson describes as a ‘briefing’.   The walk will start at 19.00 hrs at Westgate Hall.    There are two walks but marshals are needed only for the 3 mile event which should be over by 20.30 hrs and then everyone will go for a meal to which all marshals and partners are invited.     Sue is collecting names so please let her know if you can help on 01227 275547 or 0776 6042178 or susanvargyas@hotmail.com.

Sunday, September 23rd, Car Parking:

Our next scheduled car parking is on Sunday, September 23rd.  There is a form in the folder and Godfrey needs help thoughout the day so please sign up if you can help if only for an hour or so.

Friday, September 28th, Help for MS Therapy Centre, Fundraising Golf Day,:

The MS Therapy Centre has asked for help on their Fundraising Golf Day on Friday, September 28th at Chestfield Golf Club.     Players will be arriving at 7.30 am and their shorter golf day will end at 4.00 pm.   Help is needed at the beginning or end of the day to register players and to sell raffle tickets.   

There is a form in the folder if you can help.

Friday, October 5th, Cheese & Wine Tasting Evening, Cheesbox, Whitstable:

The Club has previously agreed to a Cheese and Wine Evening at the  Cheesebox in Whitstable on Friday, October 5th at a cost of £30.00 per person.    There will be a form in the folder but there is a limit of 30 persons so don’t delay signing up.

Saturday, October 6th, Chestfield Parish Council, Shrub Bed Project,:

A joint initiative between Chestfield Parish Council, CCC and Serco to repeat the Shrub Bed project with volunteers will take place at the play park on Chestfield Road on  Saturday 6 October 2018 starting at 10am. If you can help there is a form in the folder.

Friday, 26th October, Demelza Pumpkin Hunt,:

Delmelza are organizing fundraising Pumpkin Hunt on Friday, October 26th and have appealed for volunteers to register participants and act as marshals.   There is a form in the folder.

Friday, December 7th, Christmas Dinner,:

The numbers are limited to 50 and members who are interested are asked to sign up as soon as possible on the form in the folder.     Sue has a menu from the Turner Crescent and will agree the final cost at the next Board Meeting once she knows probable numbers.

Raffle:

Maureen won a bottle of bubbly.

Master of Alms:

Everyone made a contribution to Nick’s target for the year.
