Minutes of the Meeting

Held on Thursday, August 23rd 2018

   As Pat was away Sue took the meeting.

Lombok Earthquake:

Thanks to an anonymous donation the Club was able to send the money necessary for a full Shelterbox.

Disaster Appeals:

There are disasters around the world and appeals for help have been received for the Kerala floods and Venezuelan earthquake.    It was felt that there was nothing more that the Club can do without specific fundraising and when possible we should continue to support Shelterbox which does a great job and has the facilities to respond very quickly to any disaster.

Facebook:

Sue reminded everyone to share Club notices on Facebook  rather than just ‘like‘ them.

Robert and Pat’s Summer Sizzle, Sunday, August 19th:

A great time was had by all and congratulations to Robert and Pat for raising £110.00.    Robert and Pat asked that £40.00 of the money raised be donated to the MS Therapy Centre and it was agreed that the Club make this up to £100.00.  

Taster Day at Chislet Bowls Club, Hersden, Friday, August 24th:

Car Parking, Saturday, August 25th:

The next car parking is on Saturday, August 25th and Godfrey can always do with some extra help especially in the middle of the day so even if you have not signed up please turn up if you can spare some time especially between 9.00 and 11.00 am.

Greta Trip, Wednesday, August 29th:

The Greta will be sailing from Whitstable Harbour promptly at 11.00 am on Wednesday, August 29th meeting on the quayside at 10.45.   There is still one place available.   If you are interested please contact Ron on 07341977558.               Don’t forget to bring a packed lunch and drinks.

Club Charity Golf Day, Friday, September 7th:

            Everything is going well but Nick would still be glad of some more good         raffle prizes.

District Conference, Friday, September 7th to Sunday, September 9th:

            A lot of effort has gone into organizing a really special conference and as a   local Club we should give support so please have a look at the District            website to see the programme and sign up if you can.

District Conference, Gala Dinner, Saturday, September 8th:

The dinner will be held at Eliot College, University of Kent on the evening of September 8th at 7.00 for 7.30 pm.      The Club is organizing a table for at least 8 persons and there is a form in the folder so please sign up.

Help for MS Therapy Centre, Fundraising Golf Day, Friday, September 28th:

The MS Therapy Centre has asked for help on their Fundraising Golf Day on Friday, September 28th at Chestfield Golf Club.     Players will be arriving at 7.30 am and their shorter golf day will end at 4.00 pm.   Help is needed at the beginning or end of the day to register players and to sell raffle tickets.   

A form will be put in the folder as soon as we have more information.

Friends of Whitstable Hospitals, Quiz Night, Saturday, September 29th:

The Friends of Whitstable Hospitals are holding a Quiz Night on Saturday, September 29th and 7.00 for 7.30 pm at All Saints Church Hall, Whitstable.    Funds raised will be divided between Kent Motor Neurone Disease Charity and the Friends of Whitstable Hospitals and doctors’ surgeries.    There is a form in the folder.

Chestfield Parish Council, Shrub Bed Project, Saturday, October 6th:

A joint initiative between Chestfield Parish Council, CCC and Serco to repeat the Shrub Bed project with volunteers will take place at the play park on Chestfield Road on  Saturday 6 October 2018 starting at 10am. The scope of the work will include some vegetation clearance, weeding, general tidying, and possibly some staining or painting of picnic benches etc.   Serco operatives to be on site with their chipper and tools and will remove all waste.     If you can help there is a form in the folder.

Cheese and Wine Tasting Evening, Cheesebox, Whitstable, October:

The Club has previously agreed to a Cheese and Wine Evening at the  Cheesebox in Whitstable during October at a cost of £30.00 per person.    It was agreed that Friday evening would suit most members and a form will be put in the folder as soon as Ron can confirm the date.

Murder Mystery Evening, Whitstable Castle, Saturday, October 20th:

Eight places have now been booked and two are still available. Pat needs payment of £40.00 per person as soon as possible as she has to confirm numbers and pay.    There will be a welcome glass of prosecco royale.     The menu is chicken supreme with mushroom sauce, potato and green beans followed by sticky chocolate pudding with vanilla ice cream and coffee.   There is a vegetarian option of broad bean, feta and watercress salad.

Demelza Pumpkin Hunt, Friday, 26th October:

Delmelza are organizing fundraising Pumpkin Hunt in October and have appealed for volunteers to register participants and act as marshals.   They need help with car parking at Whitstable Junior School between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm.   They also need help outside the Library signing in children and giving them route maps and directions for this they need help between 10.30 am and 2.00 pm.      There will be a form in the folder.

Christmas Dinner, Friday, December 7th:

The numbers are limited to 50 and members are asked to sign up as soon as possible on the form in the folder.

Raffle:

Paul won a bottle of wine presented by Maureen.

Master of Alms:

Thanks to Nick’s efforts everyone left poorer.

Greetings from Other Clubs:

Greetings have been received from Chris English of RC Langanui, St. Kitts.   He and Sandi will be Tankerton early in December and hope to join the Club Christmas Dinner.
