SHELTERBOX

Rotary and ShelterBox are project partners in disaster relief. RCCH funds several ShelterBoxes each year that are financed by bucket collections or other fundraising events organised by the Club.

Rotary and ShelterBox are project partners in disaster relief. ShelterBox is a registered charity independent of Rotary International and the Rotary Foundation.

ShelterBox provides shelter and tools to people affected by crises such as earthquakes, volcanic activity, flooding, hurricanes, cyclones, tsunamis, or conflict. With 17 international affiliates, ShelterBox delivers the essential items people need to begin rebuilding their lives.

ShelterBoxes were first introduced in 2001 following the Gujarat earthquake and since then they have been used to help in more than 300 disasters in over 100 countries.

Supplies of the ShelterBoxes are held at several key locations around the world and the aim is to get them to disaster victims within 2 or 3 days. ShelterBox Response Teams distribute boxes on the ground, working closely with local organisations, international aid agencies and Rotary clubs. ShelterBoxes were used much closer to home in 2014 during the Somerset floods crisis.

How we help as a Club is that we fund the supply of several of these boxes each year. These are financed by bucket collections or other fundraising events organised by the Club.

In the aftermath of an international disaster we never fail to be amazed at the generosity of the people of Chichester in supporting our bucket collections to purchase ShelterBoxes.
