Breathe the Movie screened in Clitheroe

£3000 raised to support the eradication of Polio with the support of the Bill Gates Foundation.

The Event at The Grand, Clitheroe was Organised by 5 Rotary Clubs in SE Lancashire - 2 in the Ribble Valley and 3 in Hyndburn. This is the second activity this year jointly and successfully executed by the local Rotary Clubs. The earlier event raised £ 4,000 for the North West Blood Bikes.

Rotary would likle to thank cinema-goers for their excellent generosity with their extra donations of £211 (which was almost an extra £2 per person)

We hope that the gift aid of £52.75 (arising from the donations) will indeed qualify for support from the Gates Foundation and allow us to turn the overall total of £1,000 into £3,000.

There has been only 3 cases of polio in Afghanistan and Pakistan this year compared with the +/- 22 last year.
Starting in March 2018, 70,000 health workers in Afghanistan and Pakistan will be attempting to reach 10m children and inoculate them in the next 6 months. A massive push.

“The Polio Eradication Initiative” which is a joint effort of many organisations, including Rotary, and many governments including the UK, led by the WHO is tantalising close to its goal which should be possible in the early years of the 2020s.

A big thanks to “The Grand” for their support and co-operation in staging the film Breathe about Polio.

IThe Grand is showing the film Breathe again, in early May, as part of their Ladies Night programme - An opportunity to see this inspirational but emotional film with excellent acting by the lead actors - if you have missed early showings.
