Narberth Rotakids  give Foxy a big welcome.

What a lovely suprise for Narberth School today Welsh Sports Personality of the Year, British Lion, Welsh International and Scarlets rugby Player Jonathan Davies made a visit to the school to present the School Rotakids with their Charter.

Jon gave the Pupil management Team now offically Narberth Rotakids their badges and had photos taken with every class at the school. District Governor Maggie Hughes welcomed the school to the Rotary family.

Congratulations to Narberth CP School from sponsoring club Narberth and Whitland Rotary Club. RotaKids is a Primary School Citizenship programme. The programme is mainly aimed at the Junior School age group, ages 7-11, which is Years 3-6 in Primary Schools.

The main objective is to introduce Rotary ideals to young people, as well as addressing citizenship, which is becoming a major theme in schools.Rotarians would tell the youngsters a little bit about Rotary and then explain how RotaKids help Rotary. The aim is always for the youngsters to have fun while they are raising money or serving the community.

Our journey with Narberth School started two years ago when Rotarian Nigel Towns got the school to fill Rotary Shoe Boxes. Since they have planted Purple crocus at the school entrance and the centre of town to help raise awareness of the eradication of Polio worldwide. They have also sung at our Dementia Cafe at Christmas and now each month plan an activity at school and then visit The Living Memory Group and integrate with activities and have some intergenerational socialisation. The fun and noise in the room is something none of us anticipated when we started the joint working within the community. The children have also become involved with an International Project a school in Kenya called Roko 20. They have sent them flip flops to prevent a disease called Jiggers which is rampant in Kenya. Insects crawl into the children's feet whilst they lay on hessian sacks to sleep at night. We called the project 'Operation Flip Flop'. They are also exchanging videos and forValentines day they pupils from Narberth have made badges and bookmarks.

It's made such a difference to school life it's really made our children aware how how fortunate they are says Head Teacher Nia Ward.
