The Conquest Centre - An Update

Mon, Feb 12th 2018 at 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Weekly Meeting at SCCC

Thirty three members were present to hear S/f Lauren Preedy introduce Sue Brown from the Conquest Centre, plus back up from James, a Trustee, and Jess the Centre Manager, give an update on their work and plans for the future. RCTV did visit in 2015 and that year Conquest split form the RDA in order to develop a more varied range of activities at the centre to benefit more of the local community. Also that year the 20 year lease that they had been granted on the site ran out and so the decision was made to look for another venue that was more central and accessible.
A 60 year lease has now been secured at a site on Maidenbrook Lane, Monkton Heathfield and plans have been drawn up to create a Centre that can offer an even greater range of facilities and activities and become even more community orientated and is for people of all ages and the able bodied. Sue showed an excellent DVD which gave an overall view of all the different equine activities currently undertaken and described how they envisage developing these at the new site. Indications are that planning consent will be given and they are now looking at raising the £1.2m needed to fund the project. Various organisations have already indicated they are willing to contribute and Conquest are hoping that RCTV will be happy to continue with fundraising and also expanding the Board of Trustees. Questions followed, then Richard Goring proposed a vote of thanks.

Business: David Montgomery said he would soon be sending out an email giving details of the “Scatter” night and week from 26th February and which members would be attending which clubs.

Stephen Jenkins on behalf of John Binns gave an update on the Halcon One Project and the role RCTV may play in the way ahead.

International: Kathryn Robinson Burge was able to finally confirm that the money the club had earmarked for the Gambia Project could now be redirected to the International Project being proposed in Kenya once details had been finalised.

Stuart Adam advised that the posters and flyers and tickets for the Speaker’s Dinner on the 24th March are now available and asked members to promote as much as possible, reminding that The Conquest Centre would be a beneficiary. Possibility of a Raffle Prize – High Speed Carriage Driving?
