Joining together to help Rotary Club of Mount's 'Bay Ecuador Water Project
The first photos of the construction of the water tank arrived yesterday. Work started on 6th November and is well underway. The construction work should be completed by end of January. The water pump has been ordered and should be on site by then, if all goes well. We are publicising the project on the Mounts Bay Facebook page and on our website.
Working with Rotarians in Ecuador and the local community, we raised money and obtained grants to build a water tank and filtration plant for a village community with 5,000 inhabitants. We also raised funds and obtained grants for purification equipment for seven orphanages and old people's homes.
Another project with a value of £90,000 involved a partnership between three Rotary clubs in West Cornwall including The Rotary Club of St Ives, a Rotary club in Ecuador, the local community of 12,000 mountain people, and the water company.
SO HOW DID WE DO IT?
Through fund-raising and matching grants, our Rotary clubs raised £25,000.
The water company in Ecuador contributed £35,000.
The local community put in £30,000 worth of labour, free of charge.
