WHITCHURCH PRIMARY SCHOOL
Wednesday 15th November was a very wet and dismal afternoon but that did not deter the Rotakids’ committee getting dirty and having fun planting 2300 crocus corms in the school grounds.
Since they set up the Rotakids club in September they have been learning about polio and how Rotary together with the Gates’ Foundation is fighting to eradicate this crippling disease worldwide.
Each child that is immunised against polio gets a purple dye placed on the little finger on the left hand to show that they have been immunised, hence the name ‘Purple 4 Polio’
Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland is also joining forces with the Royal Horticultural Society to plant about 5 million purple crocus corms across Britain and Ireland this year, adding to the 7 million planted last year as part of the ‘Purple 4 Polio’ campaign to raise awareness and funds to END POLIO NOW.
