45 years Charter Night

Langley and Iver Rotary Club celebrated 45 years of community support and charitable fundraising on Saturday 14th October with a Charter Night Dinner at the venue which is used each week for meetings, The Pinewood Hotel.

The club this year is focussing its fundraising on ‘Purple for Polio’, which aims to eradicate polio in the world and has secured double-match funding from the Bill Gates Foundation. This was emphasised at the meeting but it is also raising funds for Prostate Cancer, the Busoga Trust (a sustainable water initiative in Uganda) and, nearer to home for the Thames Valley Hospice.

Setting aside their party political differences for the evening, the convivial cross-boundary event was attended by Cllr. Ishrat Shah, Mayor of Slough, David Pepler, Vice Chair of South Bucks District Council each of whom gave a short address and Diana Coad, Cllr for the local Langley St Mary’s ward who was the keynote speaker. Diana gave an excellent talk about her very full and varied life experiences.

There were many guests and Friends of Rotary who also attended the occasion. The atmosphere was very congenial with the room decorated lavishly with many balloons. Many thanks are due to Graham, Liz, and Meenu for arranging the event and also to the hotel for seamlessly dealing with unexpected late amendments.
