Rotary Collects for Hurricane Victims October 2017

A ShelterBox was recently the centre of attention in the Eden Centre High Wycombe when Rotarians from Princes Risborough collected in support of the ShelterBox charity, which provides emergency shelter and tools for families robbed of their homes by disaster. Shoppers were extremely generous and donated £1,200 towards vital aid for victims of recent hurricanes. The money raised will go directly to ShelterBox and matches a donation made earlier in the year by the Club.

The aid supplied by the charity comes in the form of ShelterBoxes and ShelterKits. The sturdy green ShelterBoxes contain family-sized tents specially designed to withstand the elements and provide people with temporary shelter until they are able to start the process of rebuilding a home. ShelterKits contain all of the essential tools required to start repairing and rebuilding.

The kits and boxes also contain the items that help transform a shelter into a home - like cooking sets, solar lights and activity sets for children. Extra aid items, such as SchoolBoxes that contain everything needed to get lessons up and running after a disaster, can also be provided.

ShelterBox works in partnership with Rotary, and Rotarians and Rotary groups across the world support Shelter Box in a variety of ways, from raising funds to providing support on the ground during responses to disasters. This enables the charity to cross boundaries and cut through red tape to reach even the most remote communities.
