A member's travelling adventures

In the event of President Scott Elliot enjoying a vacation on the high seas of the Mediterranean, Vice President Mairhi Trickett was in the chair at the Rotary Club's meeting last week. The speaker was Ron Sutherland who took the members on an illustrated talk of a tour of South America with his wife Pat. They flew to Santiago and set off from there admiring the amazing street art in Valparaiso, followed by a visit to a vineyard. Moving on to Patagonia they marvelled at Torres del Paine (The Towers) and The Paine Massif in the Andes range. Argentina surprised them with the number of statues and memorials commemorating the Falklands War and in Buenos Aires they walked in the footsteps of the Perons and saw the balcony where Eva Peron (and Madonna) gave her famous speech. They spent a lot of their trip sailing on lakes and fiords visiting glaciers and even sampled a glass of whisky laced with a piece of ice straight from a glacier. An enchanting trip, excellently delivered, had the members enthralled after which Mairhi Trickett gave the Club's vote of thanks.
On Wednesday evening Ron and Pat Sutherland attended the Global Scholar's Meeting in the King's Manor Hotel, Edinburgh along with student Anna Casalme from Los Angeles, California who is being hosted by the Hawick Club while she attends her year's study at Edinburgh University.
