Moonraker Presentation Evening at SCCC

Mon, Nov 13th 2017 at 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Prize-giving for the Moonraker event on 14th October based at Hestercombe

A lively crowd of over 120 Rotarians, Walkers, InnerWheel Members, and others met for the annual Moonraker Prizegiving.

President Colin set the scene, and Stuart Berry thanked everyone for attending and all those who had contributed to making the October 14th Moonraker event a success. He announced that this year 66 teams had taken part with 332 walkers of whom 175 were female and 157 were male.

After supper we were reminded that this year's charities being supported by the Moonraker walkers were the Conquest Centre, Exmoor Search and Rescue, and the Free Wheelers. We were then briefly updated on their plans for the future by Susan from the Conquest Centre, which will mean a move to new premises.

The awards were then made:
Short Course winner - 'Happy Feet'; Runner-up 'Blister Sisters'
Long Course Winners - three teams tied - 'First Thursday Club', ' We thought it was a Disco', and 'Trull Beaver Wannabees'.
Highest amount of sponsorship money raised - 'Walkie Talkies' with over £1000.

Specific additional thanks for their support were made by Stuart to Ian Walker of Hestercombe, Inner Wheel members, Raynet, Burns the Bread for Pasties, and Granny Smiths in St James' Street, for the soup ingredients.

Next Meeting: November 20th at SCCC - our first Showcase Meeting - ' Abbeyfield: the new building'. DR Nigel Birkett.

No Ball Draw was made, but back to normal next week.
