Rotary Club Lunch Meeting

Fri, Dec 15th 2017 at 12:45 pm - 2:00 pm

We meet as usual for lunch. After lunch David Houpt will speak to us about Global Sight Solutions (Formerly the Guildford Rotary Eye Project) - a charity that was represented at the recent District Conference.

There are 50 million men women and children worldwide who are avoidably blind because they are too poor to access either sight saving or sight restoring operations. Global Sight Solutions, working with its Rotary partners in the areas of need, establishes eye hospitals and clinics all of which are administered by local Rotarians. The project trains eye surgeons, operates eye camps to ascertain those in need, and provides both the surgical equipment and post operative care. Originally known as The Guildford Rotary Eye Project it was founded by Dr S N Das of Guildford Rotary Club, D1145, and is administered by volunteer Rotary trustees in the UK. The charity works in India & Africa and has recently established its first eye hospital in Nigeria. It is planning to work in eight other countries soon. With support from The Rotary Foundation it provides a £15 cataract operation for a donation in the UK of just £5. 2015 target: 100,000 cat. ops per annum. www.globalsightsolutions.org
