Interactors Visit

Members of the Llantwit Major School Interact club visited a Rotary club meeting.


Rotary President Charles Anderson welcomed to the club Filco’s Managing Director Mr Ian Hunt and his wife, Elizabeth together with a large group from Llantwit’s Interact Club led by their President, Tom Colgan.

 Filco Foods has been a longstanding supporter of Rotary’s encouragement of young people locally.  This year Mr Hunt presented the Club with a cheque for £250 to support the Young Musician Competition.  Run locally by the Club in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Cowbridge this competition is open to students between the ages of 11 and 17 in full time education throughout the UK and Ireland.  He also presented Rotarian John Clarke, who is a governor of Llantwit Major Comprehensive School, with a cheque for £500 in support of the school’s Breakfast Club.  Filco is a member of the national charity Making a Difference Locally.  Mr & Mrs Hunt were thanked by John Clarke on behalf of the Club and the school.

 Later Tom introduced officers from the Interact Club namely Caitlin Dolman - Vice President, Ellis McDonald – Treasurer and Abbie Farmer, Secretary who were accompanied by fifteen Club members.  He explained that at the beginning of the year they select a local a national and an international charity to support. The money they have collected by various means including a very successful Wine and Cheese event enabled them to collect for Mind Cymru. They have also supported Latch and UNICEF.  With the current officers leaving school for universities later this year a new team would shorty be elected.  Charles Anderson congratulated Tom and his fellow members for all they had achieved during a very successful year.

Interact is Rotary International's service club for young people aged between 12 and 18. The Interact club in Llantwit Major is made up of year 12 and 13 students from Llantwit Major Comprehensive School
