Pupils from Margaret Wix Primary School enjoy a day out at Whipsnade

Whipsnade Zoo was the venue for District 1260’s KidsOut event this year. Club Members arranged for 15 children from Margaret Wix Primary School, together with their teachers, to enjoy a wonderful day out. As in previous years, everyone enjoyed their picnic lunch under a gazebo by the Railway Station and we were able to get a great view of the old engine, ‘Sepulchre’, as she steamed past full of excited children - and Rotarians.

The weather was very kind, with hot, sunny conditions, which unfortunately meant that many of the Very Big (and Scary) Animals decided they couldn’t be bothered to show off for the Kids. However, the Bird Display lived up to its usual high standards and proved very popular. Curiously the Hyacinth Macaws had their hearts checked with a stethoscope by their trainers after the display – was it all too exciting for them as well? Sadly the sea-lions were taking a break from their traditional performance as their pool was being refurbished.

The children were, without exception, delightful and were a credit to their school. One carful even delivered a rendition of "In the Hall of the Mountain King" from the Peer Gynt Suite by Grieg on the way home! Thanks to Mrs Byford and her team for making the day enjoyable for all. This was a great day out for all concerned.
