Car show cheque presentation

(Cooden Beach Hotel)

One of the pleasures of Senlac Rotary is seeing our hard earned income being handed out to local good causes. This year the cheque presentation evening took place on 23 August at the Cooden Beach Hotel where some 40+ Rotarians, partners and guests enjoyed a meal before some of the proceeds of this year’s Classic Car Show were distributed. President Linda Fearn welcomed everyone and introduced Rotarian Dave Miles, the car show organiser, and thanked him and all his helpers for the excellent day. Dave Miles thanked his committee, Rotarians and all those who had helped. He gave special thanks to Lynda Turner of the local
Observer for the fantastic spreads saying we cannot survive without good publicity, Frank Copper the Observer photographer, and to Hastings Round Table, Hastings Sea Cadets and ATS Air Cadets all of whom did such a splendid job helping. Dave continued, “There are two weather conditions we don’t want, rain and a sky without clouds. This year for those that remember was the hottest day we have had for a very long time. The show
wasn’t as successful in attracting the public as the last few years but we are still very happy with the results”.

The recipients of the cheques this year were
- Conquest MRI Scanner Appeal – Lesley Apthorp and Mike Eastwood
 - Bexhill Diabetic Society – Michael Gebbie and Jean Melbourn
 - The Yellowmen  - Eddie McCall
 - Hastings Sea Cadets – Chris Connor

After the ceremony Dave thanked the sponsors, Lawler Davis, Fitgrahams, Herstmonceux Honda and Westridge Construction whose support he said is much valued by the Club.

Another highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Wendy Cocker Award for Endeavour which was presented to Hannah Gibson for her determination and perseverance in organising a team and walking the 40miles from Brighton to Hastings, to raise significant funds for the Yellowman Project.
