England's Highest Capped Outfield Player

Please note - the next round of the District 1180 Quiz, against Maghull and Aughton, will be held before tonights meeting, starting at 6.30pm

Stephen Daley is England’s highest capped outfield player (pushing David Beckham into second place!) Originally from Belfast, Steve had his professional football hopes dashed as a teenager when his eye sight began to deteriorate because of a genetic condition.

Steve has been the England Visually Impaired Team Captain for the last 20 years with 121 Caps and has played in 7 World Cups and 7 European Championships. In 2001, he was voted European Footballer of the year and in 2007, he became the first footballer with a disability to be inducted into the National Football Museum Hall of Fame for contribution to football.

Steve got involved with Futsal, which is much faster than football, when he was 19 and has been part of the England squad ever since. Futsal is five-a-side football and it is the game all the European players, such as Ronaldo, grew up playing.
