Ron Smith: Club Meeting 'at home' / District Quiz at Langholm

Thu, Sep 28th 2017 at 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Hawick's team travel to Langholm for the First Round of the District 1020 Quiz. Remaining members will meet informally for dinner at Mansfield House as normal..

Seven Rotarians from Hawick went to the Crown Hotel, Langholm to take part in the Rotary quiz this week. They were Scott Elliot, Tommy Stevenson, Gus Neilson, Linden Warburton, Ron Smith, Jim Walker and Ron Sutherland. They were given the usual very convivial welcome from the Langholm members. The evening started with a very hearty meal accompanied by excellent fellowship between the Langholm and Hawick Rotarians.
The quiz team of Ron Smith, Gus Neilson, Linden Warburton and Ron Sutherland then took to the stage with Scott Elliot as scorer. The Langholm team, champions of the quiz last year eventually triumphed by 26 points to 19. Langholm were then soundly congratulated for their excellent knowledge. The Langholm team were Stevie,Peter, Jim and Paddy. Quiz master was Kenneth Pool. Well done Langholm.
Meanwhile the rest of the club met at the Mansfield House Hotel and, after the meal, two members regaled the members.  Nonogenarian Jock Thorburn gave an excellent, word-perfect recitation of the lengthy ballad "The shooting of Dan McGrew" after which Andrew Suddon gave recollections of dogs and their relationship and understanding of humans both of which met with the approval of the members.
