Council / Robin Mason: Wendy Patterson - Wildlife Watch Group for children

Thu, Aug 17th 2017 at 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Weekly meeting with guest speaker

The Rotary Club welcomed the Newcastleton Wildlife Watch Group to last week's meeting.  The Group's leader Wendy Patterson brought along three young members Skye Webster and Jake and Amber Foster and they regaled the members with a potted-history of the Watch Group which Wendy had formed 5 years ago for primary school and senior pupils.  Her enthusiasm and love for the village was infectitious and, as this had given her a very satisying childhood, she felt that it was appropriate that today's youngsters have the same opportunity.  There are 22 boys and girls in the group and they meet weekly.  A scrapbook and diary is kept of everything they do and see and, that alone, made fascinating reading.  The sky's the limit for their projects and they have just won a national award in their field.  The young people took a full part in the presentation which was an excellent confidence-building exercise.  They are excited at the prospect of the possibility of lynx being introduced into the surrounding and nearby Kielder Forest.  An excellent evening came to an end all too quickly after which President Scott Elliot gave the club's vote of thanks.
