Reception - Alan Brown /Alan McCloskey.

'Rotary - Making a Difference' was the theme when Neil McKinlay, President of the Rotary Club of South Queensferry welcomed District Governor Lindsay Craig to the meeting on Thursday. Lindsay, who had recently attended a conference in San Diego for incoming District Governors, explained that Ian H.S. Riseley, from Victoria, Australia, the incoming President of Rotary International, viewed environmental degradation and global climate change as serious threats which were having a disproportionate impact on the most vulnerable - those to whom Rotary has the greatest responsibility. As environmental issues rarely register on the Rotary agenda, DG Lindsay reported that that RI President-elect Iain had challenged every Rotary club to make a difference by planting a tree for each of its members. He hoped that those 1.2 million new trees would not only benefit the environment but result in a Rotary that recognises its responsibility not only to the people on our planet but to the planet itself.

Following the meal, there was a slide show of the club's activities this year compiled by Gerald Smith. DG Lindsay congratulated President Neil on the club's success and said that it was clearly having fun as well as actively fundraising and serving the community. He spoke of his hopes and aspirations for his year in office and looked forward to the District Conference in Newcastle later this month. He also emphasised  the urgent need to recruit new and younger members to Rotary.

District Governor Lindsay Craig was introduced by Alan Brown. The vote of thanks was proposed by Gerald Smith.
